Tetrasodium Pyrophosphate, also known as TSPP, appears as an odorless colorless transparent crystal and is made up of sodium and pyrophosphate ions.
Tetrasodium Pyrophosphate is manufactured by reacting sodium carbonate with phosphoric acid to produce disodium phosphate. It is subsequently heated at high temperature to form Tetrasodium Pyrophosphate.
Sodium Pyrophosphate has a variety of applications in the food industry such as an emulsifier, thickening, dispersing and buffering agent. It is also commonly used as a food additive in products such as marshmallows, puddings, and chicken nuggets.
Tetrasodium Pyrophosphate is used as chelating and oral care agent in products, such as toothpaste and mouthwash, that prevents deposition of calcium and magnesium onto teeth.
Tetrasodium Pyrophosphate is used in hosiery manufacturing in the removal of calcium alginate linking stitches and silk degumming. It is also used in the paints and paper industry as a dispersing agent.
